Healing Our Ancestral Lineage

Throughout human history, we have been at war, locked in battle. We have been divided, pit against each other, and taught that our differences, especially physically, are means to conquer. Many cultures have tried to conquer their neighbors. In many different eras, one king/queen has tried to rule the others.

But I hope that it’s time for us to see beyond what makes us different and begin see what we have in common. It’s Thanksgiving day as I write this and I can’t help but think about what the white man did to the natives. Being 2021, you’d think we would have made progress towards healing the horrifying things that happened, but there’s still a long way to go.

We, as in those of us who are here right now, have the opportunity to begin healing our ancestral trauma. Becoming conscious of what has been done to different peoples all over the world is a start. Acknowledging that our people have done wrong is another step forward. But more has to be done in order for the healing to really take place.

Doing better in the now is important. Like stop wearing native headdresses for costumes. Be respectful of other cultures that are different than your own. Don’t make them a joke or some costume for fun. Tune in to your own heritage.

Most of my ancestors are Celtic. Lots of Scottish relatives. So for me, I have been learning more about the Celtic folk. Because I am so connected to this heritage, I am able to practice some of the spirituality of it. There’s more of a connection there for me and I don’t have to worry about whether or not I am disrespecting anyone.

There are plenty of ways for us to start the ancestral healing. Taking the initiative to learn how to be more respectful, to honor your own heritage and the heritage of other people will help us go a long way. If you want to go deeper into ancestral healing, take a listen to the recent episode from one of our podcasters Felicia Armstrong.
