5 Crystals for Comfort

The tired, achy mornings. The long days, long nights, blue mood. The slump and unexpected loss of motivation for daily activities. We’ve all been there. Most recently I found myself slipping into those feels for days at a time. My mind was in a fog, and no matter how many hours I spent laying in the grass under a tree, I still couldn’t see past the storm clouds of emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual dishevel.

Confusion, frustration, and exhaustion could not even begin to describe what I was feeling, what I was experiencing. Why was I feeling this way? Why didn’t it seem like anything was helping me? Reflecting now as I begin to get back on my feet I am finding that it has been just one of the many lessons of being.

Something to learn and grow through, to glean what I can from each moment and have a better understanding of myself. To gather the confidence to explore all parts of myself and to discover tools and practices that assist me along this journey. With that, I wanted to share my top five go-to crystals for comfort during those waves of disarray. These crystals are ones that I have learned help me personally through meditation, wearing them, or simply holding/rubbing them.

**As a disclaimer, they are by no means intended to cure physical or mental ailments, simply tools that I have come to utilize for personal peace of mind, body, and soul.

AMETHYST

The panacea of crystals, amethyst has always been one of my favorites. Amethyst is my top pick for almost any distress or desire. With its variation between deep and soft purples, it soothes mental and emotional states. It is said to assist with overcoming addictions and anxiety as well as alleviating migraines.

I feel that amethyst has a very intuitive and loving energy. When I hold or wear it I feel as though I am zenfully stepping back into myself, a welcoming home for my energetic being. There has yet to be a time that I do not have an amethyst with me.

From jewelry to tumbles in my pockets, there will always be a space for it near me. I use amethyst as a tool for meditation, sleep with it under my pillow or by my bed, held against my neck and head for migraines, etc. My next amethyst investment will be a custom set of rune stones as they are fantastic for divination (and simply because I cannot get enough)!

MOONSTONE

When I am feeling particularly emotional or out of touch with myself, like waves lapping along a midnight shore, moonstone soothes and allures me to gaze into the reflective waters within. As our Mother Moon nourishes, nurtures, and caresses our soul, I find a deep connection to the galaxies of my inner experience when sitting with this crystal.

In my collection I have rainbow, black, white, and peach moonstone. Each variation holds its own unique energy, something to be experimented with. I use moonstone when I feel I need extra help sorting through the tempests of thoughts and emotions. Either in my pocket or under my pillow, I feel hushed and better able to listen whenever using this crystal.

ROSE QUARTZ

Ah, the stone of love. Rose quartz is renowned for its gentle healing and compassionate energy. I use rose quartz to soften my own energy so that I can think and feel kindness firstly towards myself and in turn radiate that energy outwards. Although this stone is known for drawing love to you, I resonate best with it whenever I set the intention for self-love.

Whenever I have been particularly hard on myself or am feeling homesick or gloomy, I grab my rose quartz sphere and roll it between my palms in a circular motion until I settle. As a side note, I have found that spheres are great (in personal experience) to call in mindfulness as well as send out loving energy to others while rolling it between the palms.

MOSS AGATE

There is a variation of agate for just about anything. Whenever I need to reconnect and feel at a universal peace, I go for moss agate. The deep green and glittering caverns of quartz soothes deeply, healing the heart and root chakras. The energy of this crystal is calming, grounding, protecting, and cleansing. Moss agate is said to assist in alleviating symptoms related to the weather. This is another stone that I keep by my bed for a good night's rest.

SELENITE

Selenite, like amethyst, is a crystal that I will never be without. It is cleansing, protecting, detoxifying, and brings a sense of harmony. A great crystal for empaths, it filters and shields your energy from picking up on others. I keep a selenite tower beside my bed and on my altar. If I am not wearing it as jewelry, I have a small stick of it in a pocket, bag, bra (no, it surprisingly does not hurt), wherever I can have it close by.

A FEW HONORABLE MENTIONS

GARNET: Ancient, nurturing, mothering, grounding, rootsy

FLUORITE: Relax, focus, neutralises negative energy, connection, intuition

SMOKY QUARTZ: cleansing, filtering, protecting, grounding

Again, the crystals mentioned are ones that I have found that I personally resonate with and how I work with them. Each crystal vibrates at a different frequency just as each individual. Although I may work with amethyst for just about anything, you may find that its energy is too ethereal to bring you the kind of comfort you are seeking. Maybe you desire an earthy comfort as opposed to something dreamy. Take from this article what you will and make it your own. Start somewhere, but blow the seeds of your knowledge across fields of discovery, not a single, flat plane.

With much love, light, and many blessings.
