Flashes of the day before were flooding back into my mind when I woke up. I tried to shake my head in hopes they would disappear. It had no effect. The only thing that stopped the thoughts were a rumbling sound.

I quickly got up and rushed over to the window.

There were three hovering ships outside. They looked different than the one I saw in the city. Instead of having arms extended kind of like a bird, they were all pointed down looking like giant, metal jellyfish.

It was just them for a few brief moments. Then from behind the houses, a line of what appeared to be a dozen extraterrestrials in black armor with bright blue stripes on the side were marching through. They could almost be mistaken for human. But the difference between us and them was the head.

Their helmets had two large spikes sticking up from the forehead area. I figured that was space for horns or antennas. They were about the same size as humans from what I could see. Each one was holding a large weapon. There was a smaller one down by their knee area.

It was a horrible sight to see. I was nervous as hell as they marched past what probably used to be a peaceful community. Without making too much noise, I ran upstairs to look for better clothes. I was still wearing my suit from work when I fell asleep. My feet were hurting and blistered from running in the wrong kind of shoes for so long. The biggest room upstairs had a closet with clothes that were much better for this new life.

I put on some hiking pants that came attached with a belt, a long-sleeved running shirt, and hiking socks that went up to my calf. There was a pair of brown boots that went up a few inches past my ankle. They were worn in pretty well, but they fit. My feet were still painful, but much happier. In the corner of the closet was a small camping bag. That came in handy.

I peeked out after I got dressed to see what was happening. They had walked past the street I was on except for two of them that had just turned toward my direction. They were scanning each house with some kind of beam that shot out from the forehead area of their helmets. There were five or six houses between us, but they would definitely find me if I remained there.

So, as quickly and quietly as I could, I stashed a few cans of food, the map I drew from the broadcast, and put a large bottle of water in into the bag. I was ready to get the heck out of there. On my way out the back door, there was a cabinet that was half open with ammo scattered across the floor.

I looked in and saw it was a gun cabinet. Most of the weapons were taken except for a small, grey pistol. There was a box of ammo next to it so I grabbed it and the pistol and ran as swiftly out of the house as I could.

There was a thin line of trees in the back. I dashed over to them and tried to find a way around all of the aliens. There were only more houses behind the line of trees. I felt like I needed to get further away from the suburbs and find one of the safe camps.

Before I could make my move, it started to rain. First it was a slight sprinkle, then it quickly became a rainstorm with thunder off in the distance. It didn’t take long for me to become drenched. At least I got to change, was my only positive thought.

It was extremely possible that I was going to die or get caught in my mind. I was scared. But for some reason I felt like I needed to keep going. My first instinct was to get up and run as far away from the house as I could get.

There was a thin, long stretch of grass that ran behind each house. I followed it as long as I could without getting on the road. I was almost to the end of it when I saw the two aliens in armor appeared around the corner. They were started heading in my direction. I ducked behind a tree as fast as I could hoping they didn’t see me.

Well, they did. I could feel it without needing to see where they were. I bolted over a fence and tried to find a place to hide. I ducked under a wooden deck that was barely big enough for me to fit in. The way I was positioned, I could see the fence I had just jumped over.

Both of them jumped at least fifteen feet in the air and easily cleared the fence. What the fuck? The question was going through my head over and over. The beam of light came out of their helmets and began scanning the top of the house moving down towards where I was. I wanted so badly to run away, but I was trapped.

The beam came down and was about to scan the deck and me with it, but then it stopped right before that. They both walked up the stairs and were right above me. Some of the dust had fallen off and landed in my throat, eyes, and nose. The need to cough and sneeze were trying to burst from my body.

I wasn’t able to contain it and a little sneeze/ cough came out. Before I could take another breath, there was a loud crashing sound, a squeeze on my arm, and then I was in the air flying over the fence and landing hard on the ground. The air was knocked out of me, and I struggled to breathe.

Before I could get up and run, they jumped back over and landed next to me. One of them grabbed me again and threw me twenty feet forward. There was a different line of trees that I assumed went to more houses. I looked over and saw the two beings jump high into the air towards me.

Something happened to one of them and it looked like they got flung to the right falling hard to the ground. The other one looked over as it landed to see what happened. That’s when I ran to the trees. I heard the sound of the hissing gun noise and felt a strong force that flew me high into the air. I saw the world tumbling all around me.

The last thing I saw before blacking out was a small vein of running water.
